22¢/kWh
New Jersey’s average residential electricity rate — roughly 30% above the national average, and rising.
That rate increase added hundreds of dollars to the annual bills of PSE&G, JCP&L, and Atlantic City Electric customers. The good news: New Jersey also runs one of the most rewarding solar incentive programs in the nation. Between net metering, the SuSI SREC-II program, and tax exemptions on both the sale and the added home value, going solar in New Jersey creates a long-term income stream — not just bill savings.

How long New Jersey pays you for the electricity your system generates — through the SuSI SREC-II program, on top of your utility bill savings.
Most solar companies just put panels on your roof. Venture Home builds an integrated energy system that produces, stores, and manages your power automatically.

From your first call to flipping the switch, we manage every step. Most projects go from signed agreement to activated system in 8–12 weeks.
We analyze your roof, energy usage, and utility bills to design a system sized for your home and utility — whether you’re a PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric, or Rockland Electric customer.
We submit your SuSI program registration to NJCEP before installation begins — a critical step most homeowners miss — and handle all local building permits and your utility interconnection application simultaneously.
Our local W-2 crews (never subcontractors) install your system — typically in one to two days of on-roof work.
Once your utility approves interconnection, your system goes live and your SREC-II certificate generation begins. We monitor performance for the life of your system.
New Jersey Solar Incentives
New Jersey’s incentive stack is one of the strongest in the country. Venture Home handles every application and registration on your behalf.

Why Venture Home?
Venture Home isn’t a sales operation that subcontracts your install. We employ our own crews, design your system in-house, and stay with you long after activation.

New Jersey offers one of the most financially rewarding state-level solar programs in the country. The centerpiece is the SuSI SREC-II program — for every 1,000 kWh your system generates, you earn one certificate worth $85, paid quarterly for 15 years through an approved aggregator. A typical 9–10 kW system earns $900–$1,100/year in SREC-II income alone. Net metering credits your bill at the full retail rate for every kWh you send to the grid, through PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric, and Rockland Electric. Solar equipment is fully exempt from New Jersey’s 6.625% sales tax, applied automatically at purchase. And solar adds to your home’s value while being fully exempt from your property tax assessment. Venture Home handles every registration and application on your behalf — including the critical SREC-II pre-registration that must happen before installation begins.
The Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) program is New Jersey’s primary ongoing solar incentive, run by the NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). For every 1,000 kWh your system produces, you earn one SREC-II certificate currently worth $85, sold to your utility and paid out quarterly for 15 years. Enrollment requires submitting a pre-registration application to the NJ Clean Energy Program before installation begins — a step many homeowners don’t realize is required, and one that Venture Home handles entirely. Once your system is interconnected, your certification number is issued and your rate is locked in for the full 15-year term. (Note: NJBPU periodically reviews SREC-II rates — we submit pre-registration as early as possible to secure your rate.)
No — New Jersey does not offer a state income tax credit for solar. However, the state’s incentive package — SREC-II payments, full sales tax exemption, property tax exemption, and retail-rate net metering — is specifically designed to create strong financial returns without one. For many New Jersey homeowners, SREC-II income alone reduces the payback period by two to three years.
New Jersey averages approximately $2.75–$2.85 per watt installed before incentives, so a typical 9–10 kW system runs roughly $25,000–$29,000 upfront. After the sales tax exemption, SREC-II income over 15 years, and net metering bill savings, your effective cost over the system’s life is significantly lower. Venture Home provides free custom quotes with a full financial projection — including your estimated SREC-II income stream and utility bill savings — based on your actual usage and roof.
Net metering lets your solar system work like a bank account with your utility. When your panels produce more electricity than you’re using, the excess goes to the grid and you earn a bill credit at the full retail rate. When you need grid power — at night or on cloudy days — you draw down those credits. Credits roll over monthly, and any surplus remaining at the annual true-up is credited at the wholesale (avoided cost) rate. Net metering is available through all four of New Jersey’s major utilities — PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric, and Rockland Electric — and activates automatically once your system is interconnected. Importantly, net metering savings are separate from SREC-II income — you receive both simultaneously.
At current rates, the average New Jersey homeowner will spend roughly $87,000 on electricity over 25 years — and those rates jumped 17% in June 2025 with further increases expected. Solar locks in your energy cost for the life of the system. On top of bill savings, the SuSI SREC-II program pays you for the electricity you generate for 15 years — adding $900–$1,100/year for a typical system. During your free consultation, we’ll build a personalized projection covering both your bill savings and SREC-II income, based on your actual usage, roof, and utility.
Most installations are completed in one to two days of on-roof work. The full timeline — from signed agreement to an activated, SREC-II-registered system — typically runs 8 to 12 weeks, including design, SREC pre-registration, permitting, installation, and utility interconnection. We run permitting and SREC pre-registration in parallel to avoid delays, and we keep you updated throughout.
Without a battery, your solar system shuts off automatically during a grid outage — a safety requirement for all grid-tied systems. With battery backup, your system disconnects from the grid and continues powering essential circuits (lights, refrigerator, heating, Wi-Fi) from stored solar energy. New Jersey experiences regular grid stress during summer heat peaks and Nor’easter season. A battery also lets you use stored solar power during PSE&G’s and JCP&L’s peak-rate hours rather than drawing from the grid when it’s most expensive. We’ll help you evaluate whether storage makes sense for your home during your consultation.
